Welcome to UNDP Mission in Serbia

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is the UN’s global development network, advocating for change and connecting countries to knowledge, experience and resources to help people build a better life. We are on the ground in 166 countries, and in Serbia since 1952, working with them on their own solutions to global and national development challenges. As countries develop local capacity, they draw on the people of UNDP and our wide range of partners.

UNDP continues to support Serbia in its own efforts to achieve the highest level of human prosperity and dignity for all its citizens irrespective of their gender, ethnicity or creed. UNDP promotes sustainable human development, human security and equal possibilities for all, while providing every available support to Serbia in its progress toward joining the European Union.

UNDP operates in Serbia through the Country Office in Belgrade.

Our objectives for the country are outlined in the Country Programme Document (CPD), 2011-2015, adopted in July 2010 and is accompanied by its implementation plan - Country Programme Action Plan (CPAP), 2011-2015, which has been designed together and approved by the Government in December 2010.

Three core areas build on the foundations of activities implemented under the prior country programme, which was extended one year through 2010, and the country programme action plan. UNDP has sharpened programme focus on sustainable and inclusive development; accountability and governance; and, energy and environment.

There are three key objectives defined for the period 2011-2015:

  • Sustainable Development and Social Inclusion Enhanced
  • Good Governance Strenghtened
  • Enabling Framework for Environmental Management and Energy Efficiency Strengthened.

For the success of its ongoing and future activities in Serbia UNDP relies on the strong relationship with its partners. Our extensive network of partners includes the government, local authorities, international community, civil society, non-governmental organizations and the private sector.

We base our partnerships on the common visions of Serbia's future development and an in-depth understanding of development priorities facing the country.

UNDP is also uniquely placed to advise the government on policies and institutions to meet the country's development challenges, to work with partners to mobilize talent and resources, and to play a leading advocacy role supported by UNDP's trademark Human Development Reports as well as the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) framework.
